"A molecular perspective on the tempo and mode of diversification in Neotropical birds"
Robb T. Brumfield
Museum of Natural Science, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, USA.
Associate Curator of Genetic Resources and Associate Professor of the Biology Museum of Natural Science at Louisiana State University. His research interests encompass studies of population genetics, speciation, and systematic of Neotropical birds. Among his current projects are: comparative phylogeography of Neotropical birds with cross-Andes distributions; molecular systematic of Neotropical diversification, especifically in ovenbirds and woodcreepers (Furnariidae); rapid speciation by sexual selection in Jamaican Streamertail Hummingbirds (Trochilus); and comparative phylogeography of the Northern Andean montane forest avifauna’s ecological speciation in Rallus. A list of his publications can be found at: http://www.museum.lsu.edu/brumfield/pubs/pubs.html
"Diversification of the Neotropical Avifauna: disentangling the geographical patterns of persisting ancient diversity and phylogenetic expansions"
Jon Fjeldsa
Natural History Museum of Denmark, University of Copenhagen,
Copenhagen, Denmark.
Professor and Curator of the Natural History Museum of Denmark, his broad field of expertise comprises evolution, biogeography and systematic of birds particularly from the tropical Andes region and eastern Africa. His research focuses on global evolution of Passerine birds, a suitable model group for global scale studies on diversification processes and whether species radiations are triggered by biogeographic events (plate tectonics and climate) or by innovations in specific lineages (patterns and rates of speciation). Dr. Fjeldså (with N. Krabbe) is author of Birds of the High Andes, a book regarded as the "bible" in Andean birds with more than 4000 copies sold. BHA is a remarkable achievement in terms of data, accuracy, and condensation of information gathered over a ten-year period spent in the field, libraries and museums. BHA is also illustrated by Dr. Fjeldså, who is among the worlds most gifted bird artists. A publications list of Dr. Fjeldså can be found at: http://snm.ku.dk/english/staffsnm/vip/profile/?id=75192&f=3
